If you like RPGs, you'll like this game... well... actually, you'll love this game. Don't expect FPS action in this game because you won't find it, but it is an RPG with guns.
You start out the game by being born in an underground vault. Your mother dies during the birth, and then it lets you play through a few short, important parts of your life. Once you get through the intro, you find out that your father has fled the vault, which nobody ever leaves. Everyone else in the vault assumes you've aided him and then you have to escape. Once you're outside for the first time in your life, the adventure begins.
There are many things about this game that I love. I think the lock picking was done incredibly well, one of the best lock pick systems ever made. I also loved the attention to detail in this game, with many little extras around every corner.
Then you find things that were horribly done, like computer hacking. It shows you a bunch of words on the screen with a bunch of other characters between them. You choose one of the words to see if it's the correct password, but if it isn't, it'll tell you how many characters from the word chosen are in the actual password. You get a few more tries, but if you fail all your attempts, you're locked out of that computer and can't get in, period. It ends up leaving most people saving right before hacking, then reloading if they fail. It was an interesting and very cool idea, but just not done very well.
The combat system was interesting. You could take your time to aim at specific areas of your target and fire. It would show you the chance percentage that you would actually hit the target, then after you select where you'll aim, it will slow the action down so you can watch you targeted shots destroy your enemies, or whiz right by them. There is also, of course, regular running and shooting. This game has a lot of combat, whether it be with people or mutated beasts, there is always something to fight.
It really is an excellent game, much of it was very innovative and new. I'm really looking forward to the next game of the series, I just hope they fix that horrible computer hacking system.
